What We Believe

We believe that there is a God who created us and the earth on which we live. We also believe the Bible's claim that it is the Divinely inspired, unerring Word of God. The Bible tells us that we are all sinners before a holy and righteous God before whom all will ultimately stand. It teaches that sin cannot enter heaven and must be punished in a literal and eternal hell. However, the great message of the Bible is that God loves sinners, and He sent His only son, Jesus Christ, into the world to save us and provide a way of Salvation.

We believe in the virgin birth of our Lord Jesus Christ and in His deity and humanity. The life of Christ was marked by sinless perfection and complete obedience to God, His Father. His words and actions displayed to mankind the creatorial power, infinite wisdom, and matchless love of God. On the cross of Calvary, the Bible tells us that the Saviour suffered the wrath of God for sin and shed His blood to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. And in His death, the Lord Jesus Christ completely finished the work of redemption to God's satisfaction. The Lord Jesus Christ was buried, rose again from the dead, and, in the face of many witnesses, ascended bodily into heaven, where He is today. The Bible tells us He is coming again to "rapture" his saints, dead and alive, to be with him forevermore.

Until His coming again, we seek to follow the teachings of Christ, the practice of the early Christians recorded in the book of Acts, and the doctrine established in the Epistles. This includes the baptism by immersion of all believers and the "assembling together" of Christians in local churches (assemblies) for "fellowship, and in breaking of bread,  and in prayers" (Acts 2:42). We seek to obey the commandment of Christ and the example set forth by the New Testament apostles to "preach the gospel" and spread the good news of God's great Salvation.

Our History

After years of Sunday School outreach conducted by Christians from the Seymour Street Gospel Hall downtown, the hall itself was constructed in 1921, becoming a meeting place for an assembly. Ever since, the members at Fairview have been actively engaged in spreading the gospel, locally in neighbouring areas of Vancouver and globally in distant lands. Today, we still gather at the original location, in the very same hall where it all began.

"Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen."  Matthew 28:19-20
